Chapter 13, Throne of the Fallen

"It was a decadent concoction he'd created one evening of muddled blackberries, brown sugar simple syrup, bourbon, orange zest, and a splash of champagne."

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 4oz bourbon
  • 2 tsp orange liquor 
  • 6 blackberries
  • 1/4 of an orange, zested
  • champagne 
  • one sprig of mint
Recipe:
  1. Heat 1/2 cup of brown sugar and 1/2 cup of water on the stove at medium heat. Remove from heat once melted and set aside to cool. This is the brown sugar simple syrup. 
  2. Muddle blackberries in a cocktail shaker. Add in 2 tsp of the brown sugar simple syrup, 4 oz of bourbon, 2 tsp of orange liquor, 1/4 of an orange zest, and the mint sprig. Shake with ice. 
  3. Strain into a glass and top with champagne.
